Dolaylı Anlatıma Giriş: Cümleler (Reported Statements)

Önceki derste edilgen yapının (passive voice) farklı zamanlarda nasıl kullanıldığını görmüştün; bir cümlenin öznesini nasıl "arka plana" attığımızı öğrenmiştin. Bu derste ise başka bir dönüştürme becerisine geçiyoruz: birinin söylediği bir cümleyi, kendi cümlemiz içine alarak aktarmak. Buna dolaylı anlatım (reported speech) denir. Bir sonraki derste (5/8) bu yapıyı sorulara ve emir cümlelerine taşıyacaksın; bu yüzden bugün öğreneceğin zaman kaymalarını iyi pekiştirmen önemli.

Bu derste ne öğreneceksin?

• Doğrudan anlatım (direct speech) ile dolaylı anlatım (reported speech) arasındaki farkı.
• "Dolaylı anlatıma geçerken fiil zamanının bir basamak geriye kayması" kuralını (tense shift / backshift).
• Zamir (I, you, we...) ve zaman/yer belirteçlerinin (yesterday, here, tomorrow...) nasıl değiştiğini.
• "She said that..." ve "He told me that..." kalıplarını doğru şekilde kurmayı.

Dil bilgisi / kalıp

Temel kalıp:

Özne + said (that) + Özne + fiil (bir zaman geriye kayar) + ...

Türkçede biz genelde "...dediğini söyledi" ya da doğrudan aktarma yaparız; İngilizcede ise özel bir kural vardır: eylem söylendiği andan daha önce bir noktada anlatılıyorsa, fiilin zamanı bir basamak geriye kayar (backshift). Bu, Türkçede bulunmayan, İngilizceye özgü bir kuraldır.

say ve tell farkı: say kişiden bağımsız kullanılır (say something), tell ise mutlaka bir kişi alır (tell someone something).

Örnek: She said that she was tired. (O, yorgun olduğunu söyledi.) ama She told me that she was tired. (O, bana yorgun olduğunu söyledi.)

that kelimesi genellikle atılabilir, cümle yine doğrudur: She said she was tired.

Zamir ve belirteç değişimleri de unutulmamalıdır, çünkü konuşan kişi değiştiği için bakış açısı da değişir:

3. Direct: "We have finished the project," they said.
Türkçesi: "Projeyi bitirdik," dediler.
Reported: They said that they had finished the project.

4. Direct: "I will call you tomorrow," she told me.
Türkçesi: "Seni yarın arayacağım," dedi bana.
Reported: She told me that she would call me the next day.
Türkçesi: Ertesi gün beni arayacağını söyledi.

5. Direct: "I can speak French," he said.
Türkçesi: "Fransızca konuşabilirim," dedi.
Reported: He said that he could speak French.
Türkçesi: Fransızca konuşabildiğini söyledi.

6. Direct: "I am studying for the exam," she said.
Türkçesi: "Sınav için çalışıyorum," dedi.
Reported: She said that she was studying for the exam.
Türkçesi: Sınav için çalıştığını söyledi.

7. Direct: "I saw him yesterday," she said.
Türkçesi: "Onu dün gördüm," dedi.
Reported: She said that she had seen him the day before.
Türkçesi: Onu bir önceki gün gördüğünü söyledi.

8. Direct: "I don't like coffee," he admitted.
Türkçesi: "Kahveyi sevmiyorum," diye itiraf etti.
Reported: He admitted that he didn't like coffee.
Türkçesi: Kahveyi sevmediğini itiraf etti.

9. Direct: "This is my favourite book," she said.
Türkçesi: "Bu benim en sevdiğim kitap," dedi.
Reported: She said that that was her favourite book.
Türkçesi: Onun en sevdiği kitap olduğunu söyledi.

10. Direct: "I have never been to Paris," he said.
Türkçesi: "Hiç Paris'e gitmedim," dedi.
Reported: He said that he had never been to Paris.
Türkçesi: Hiç Paris'e gitmediğini söyledi.

Türklerin sık yaptığı hatalar

• Yanlış: She said that she is tired. → Doğru: She said that she was tired. (Türkçede zaman kaymadığı için öğrenciler fiili olduğu gibi bırakır; oysa İngilizcede said'den sonra fiil bir basamak geriye kayar.)
• Yanlış: He said me that he was busy. → Doğru: He told me that he was busy. (say bir kişiyle doğrudan kullanılmaz, tell kullanılmalıdır.)
• Yanlış: She said that she will come tomorrow. → Doğru: She said that she would come the next day. (will → would ve tomorrow → the next day değişimi unutulur.)
• Yanlış: He said that he saw her here. → Doğru: He said that he had seen her there. (yer belirteci here → there olarak değişmelidir, konuşan kişi artık orada değildir.)
• Yanlış: She told that she loved music. → Doğru: She said that she loved music. / She told me that she loved music. (tell mutlaka bir nesne alır; almazsa say kullanılmalıdır.)

Telaffuz ipucu

• said kelimesi "seyd" değil, "sed" şeklinde okunur; bu, İngilizcede yazım-okunuş uyumsuzluğuna güzel bir örnektir.
• told kelimesindeki "o" sesi Türkçedeki "o" gibi değil, biraz daha uzun ve yuvarlak "o" sesiyle söylenir: "told".
• Cümle içinde that genelde vurgusuz ve hızlı söylenir, neredeyse "tht" gibi duyulabilir; bu yüzden çoğu zaman konuşmada atılır.
