Dil bilgisi / kalıp

Fiyat sorma kalıbı:

How much + is/are + isim + ?

Tekil isimlerde is, çoğul isimlerde are kullanılır.

Örnek: How much is this shirt? (Bu gömlek ne kadar?) — How much are these shoes? (Bu ayakkabılar ne kadar?)

Türkçede 'ne kadar' tek bir kelime öbeğiyken İngilizcede fiile göre is/are seçimi değişir; bu Türkçede olmayan bir kuraldır.

Beden sorma kalıbı:

What size + are you? / do you need?

Örnek: What size are you? (Bedeniniz kaç?)

Renk sorma kalıbı:

What color + would you like?

Örnek: What color would you like? (Hangi rengi istersiniz?)

Türklerin sık yaptığı hatalar

• Yanlış: How much this shirt? -> Doğru: How much is this shirt? (is/are fiili unutulmamalı.)
• Yanlış: How much are this shoe? -> Doğru: How much are these shoes? (shoe her zaman çoğul kullanılır: shoes.)
• Yanlış: I want try on this. -> Doğru: I want to try this on. (want'tan sonra 'to' gelmeli.)
• Yanlış: What is your size? (çok resmi/tuhaf) -> Doğru: What size are you?
• Yanlış: This trouser is expensive. -> Doğru: These trousers are expensive. (trousers her zaman çoğul.)
