Bu derste ne öğreneceksin?

Önceki derste günlük hayatta sık kullanılan kalıpları çalıştık. Bu derste yolumuzu bulmaya odaklanıyoruz. Yabancı bir şehirde otelden çıktın, bir müze, bir eczane ya da bir metro istasyonu arıyorsun. İşte bu derste o anda işine yarayacak cümleleri öğreneceksin.

• Bir yerin nerede olduğunu kibarca sormayı (Excuse me, where is...?)
• Basit yol tariflerini anlamayı ve vermeyi (Go straight, turn left...)
• Yer bildiren kelimeleri doğru kullanmayı (next to, opposite, between)
• Otobüs, metro ve taksiyle ilgili bilet alma ve bilgi isteme kalıplarını

Kelimeler

Dil bilgisi / kalıp

1. Bir yeri sormak

Yol sorarken cümleye neredeyse her zaman Excuse me ile başlarız. Bu, Türkçedeki "Affedersiniz" gibidir ve karşındaki kişinin dikkatini kibarca çeker.

• Excuse me, where is + the + yer? → Excuse me, where is the station? (Affedersiniz, istasyon nerede?)
• Is there a + yer + near here? → Is there a pharmacy near here? (Yakınlarda eczane var mı?)
• How can I get to + yer? → How can I get to the museum? (Müzeye nasıl gidebilirim?)
• Is it far? → Uzak mı?

Dikkat: Belli bir yeri soruyorsan the kullanırsın (the station: o bilinen istasyon). Herhangi birini arıyorsan a/an kullanırsın (a bank: herhangi bir banka).

2. Yol tarif etmek: Emir kipi

Yol tarifinde emir kipi kullanılır. Formül çok basittir:

Fiil + devamı → Go straight. Turn left. Take the second right.

Türkçede de "Düz git, sola dön" deriz ve özne kullanmayız. İngilizcede de aynısı geçerli: You go straight demek yerine sadece Go straight deriz. Kibar olmak için sonuna please eklenmez. Bunun yerine başa Just ya da sona and then gibi bağlayıcılar eklenir: Go straight and then turn right.

3. Yer bildiren kalıplar

• It's next to + yer → It's next to the bank. (Bankanın yanında.)
• It's opposite + yer → It's opposite the park. (Parkın karşısında.)
• It's between + yer + and + yer → It's between the café and the hotel. (Kafeyle otelin arasında.)
• It's on the corner. → Köşede.
• It's on your left / right. → Solunda / sağında.

Türkçeyle farkı: Türkçede "bankanın yanında" derken yer kelimesi önce, ilgeç sonra gelir. İngilizcede tam tersi: önce next to, sonra the bank.

4. Ulaşım kalıpları

• by + araç (the yok!) → by bus, by metro, by taxi, by train
• take + the + araç → Take the number 5 bus. (5 numaralı otobüse bin.)
• Which bus goes to + yer? → Hangi otobüs ... gider?
• How much is a ticket to + yer? → ... bilet ne kadar?
• Where do I get off? → Nerede inmeliyim?

3. Go straight and turn left at the traffic lights.

Oxford'a bir gidiş-dönüş bilet, lütfen.

10. How much is a single ticket?
Tek yön bilet ne kadar?

11. Get off at the third stop.
Üçüncü durakta in.

12. I usually go to work by metro.
İşe genellikle metroyla giderim.

13. Can you take me to this address, please?
Beni bu adrese götürebilir misiniz, lütfen? (taksi şoförüne)

Diyalog

A: Excuse me, how can I get to the City Museum?
Affedersiniz, Şehir Müzesi'ne nasıl gidebilirim?

B: Oh, it's quite far. You can walk, but it takes about thirty minutes.
Ah, epey uzak. Yürüyebilirsiniz ama yaklaşık otuz dakika sürer.

A: That's a long walk. Is there a bus?
Bu uzun bir yürüyüş. Otobüs var mı?

B: Yes, take the number 12 bus. The bus stop is over there, opposite the bank.
Evet, 12 numaralı otobüse binin. Durak şurada, bankanın karşısında.

A: Great. Where do I get off?
Harika. Nerede inmeliyim?

B: Get off at the fourth stop. Then turn right and go straight.
Dördüncü durakta inin. Sonra sağa dönün ve düz gidin.

A: Can I buy a ticket on the bus?
Bileti otobüste alabilir miyim?

B: No, you need a card. You can buy one at the kiosk next to the stop.
Hayır, kart lazım. Durağın yanındaki büfeden alabilirsiniz.

A: And the museum is on the right, isn't it?
Müze de sağda, değil mi?

B: That's right. It's on the corner, next to a big café.
Doğru. Köşede, büyük bir kafenin yanında.

Türklerin sık yaptığı hatalar

• I go to school with bus. → I go to school by bus.
  Türkçedeki "otobüsle" ifadesi yüzünden with kullanılıyor. Ulaşım araçlarında by kullanılır.
• I go by the metro. → I go by metro.
  by kalıbında araç adından önce the gelmez.
• Turn to left. → Turn left.
  "Sola dön" çevirisindeki "-a" eki yüzünden to ekleniyor. Turn left / turn right kalıbında to yoktur.
• Where is bus stop? → Where is the bus stop?
  Türkçede artikel olmadığı için the unutuluyor. Belli bir yeri sorarken the gerekir.
• Get in the bus. → Get on the bus.
  Otobüs, tren ve metroya get on ile binilir, get off ile inilir. Taksi ve arabaya ise get in / get out of denir.

Telaffuz ipucu

• straight kelimesindeki gh okunmaz. "streyt" diye söylenir. "straygt" ya da "streyg" demekten kaçın.
• right kelimesinde de gh sessizdir: "rayt". İngilizcedeki r sesini Türkçedeki gibi dili titreterek değil, dil damağa değmeden, yumuşak çıkar.
• station kelimesinin sonundaki -tion hecesi "şın" diye okunur: "steyşın". Aynı kural direction (dayrekşın, yön) kelimesinde de geçerli.
